Hotel Rwanda

I have to say I was amazed by Don Cheadle! He sort of blew me away. I haven't seen many movies where is plays a serious part and he did an amazing job with his role.

Most people are familiar with the Genocide in Rwanda; but to most people it seems like something bad that happened far away. That’s kind of what I felt about it before I saw the movie. I really don't have a good grasp of what really went on. When I saw the movie it was all very clear.

One very important message the movie sends is that most people will see something bad happening and say "OMG that’s bad" and then not do anything. There is a part in the movie were a camera man gets footage of many dead bodies and brings it to his reporter. He later noticed that the Hotel manager was there, who is a local, and says sorry for showing that to you i didn't know you were there. The manager says "No I’m glad you got that footage, people will see it and then they will have to send help." The camera man responded "you don't get it most people will see this and say that’s bad and then go on eating their dinners."

The hotel manager’s character goes through a transformation in the movie. The transformation deals with how much importance he put on other people besides his family. It’s very interesting to see how he changes and what does due to those changes.

The movie was rated PG-13 and I was wondering how a movie about Genocide was not rated R. The movie isn't at graphic as it easily could be, but there are still graphic scenes. The movie focuses more on the emotional/human aspects of one character. This character helps many people survive the genocide and you get more of the emotions. I think focusing more on that one aspect makes the movie that much more powerful.

I think people should see this movie just to realize that some really horrible things going on in the world. It may even convince people to do more than just have pity for people in tragedies and actually act if it affects them. This movie is powerful and it is also a little graphic but it is worth it.
